the girl and me
a poem by Meghan Bay
i have always wanted to be a woman
i didn't quite know what it meant
but it stirred something in me
that felt wild and beautiful.
i am freshly touching the grass
of womanhood,
and as i do i see
there is beauty and pain
in every aspect of life.
as i heal, i understand
the great blessing
pain can be
when received
with curiosity.
i have always wanted to be a woman.
so i could have
the most beautiful body
in the world
as all women do.
nobody told me
i would have to learn
how to love her
over and over again
but i do.
i have always wanted to be a woman.
so i could harness
the beauty of the world
and create a life
riddled with dreams.
nobody told me
the journey is the dream
that aches to be seen.
i love being a woman.
it’s being afraid
of everything
and nothing at all.
it’s touching the grass
of heavens door
just long enough to know
where to go
from here.
